The Design Sketching SIG’s goal is to establish a community for sharing and developing knowledge concerning ‘design sketching’, education and application. We encourage collaboration and integrative research activities between design educators and practitioners internationally. The SIG will integrate research, practice and education, between engineers, industrial designers, entrepreneurs and any parties that value and utilizing sketching in any type of product or service research and development. We are aware that different value systems operate between theses eco-systems and look forward to sharing our expertise with all of them.
Given the visual character of the design discipline and practice - the raison d’être of design - and given the rather textual format of most traditional academic forums, it will explore and eventually introduce alternative yet academically valid ‘visually oriented’ formats for conference and research-oriented publication.
Establish collaborative presence at current conferences/forums through papers and workshops.
Seek to collaborate with various disciplines, academics and practitioners on various academic outputs.
Organize online presentations about various sketch topics and interests.
Eventually organize and prototype a ‘World Conference on Design Sketching’ with the intent that it is ongoing.
Create community of common knowledge, sources, visions, practices, example, and partners that focus on design sketching.
Seek out collaborative opportunities to describe, collect and share best practices, approaches and methodologies, for sharing and learning design sketching.
